Privacy & Data

Talvi Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Betterfly Effect LLC, a Delaware limited liability company doing business as Talvi (“Talvi,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operates the Talvi mobile application and the website at www.talvi.app (together, the “Services”). Talvi combines a cozy village-building game with real-world charitable giving, letting you round up everyday purchases and make contributions that fund verified nonprofit causes.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, where it is stored, and the choices and rights you have. We have written it to be straightforward, and we mean what it says. Please read it carefully.

2. Scope and Acceptance

This Policy applies to personal information we collect through the Talvi app and the Talvi website, and through related communications such as our newsletter and customer support. It does not apply to third-party products or services that have their own privacy policies, including payment processors, nonprofit partners, and community platforms described below.

By creating a Talvi account or otherwise using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Services.

3. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information.

Information you provide to us

•       Account and profile information: your email address, username or display name, login credentials, and any optional profile details you choose to add.

•       Communications: messages you send to us, support requests, survey responses, and your newsletter subscription status.

Information collected automatically

•       Device and technical information: device type, operating system, app version, language settings, and device identifiers.

•       Usage information: how you interact with the app and website, including builds you complete, charms you collect, features you use, pages you view, and session activity.

•       Approximate location: general location inferred from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.

•       Push notification tokens: an identifier that lets us deliver push notifications you have opted into.

Transaction and donation activity

When you fund a build, purchase charms, or make a round-up contribution, we collect records of that activity. This includes the amount, the cause or charm involved, the build it unlocked, and the date and time. We use this information to confirm your contribution, complete the in-game result, and route funds to the correct nonprofit partner.

Payment information

We do not collect or store full payment card numbers, bank account numbers, or similar raw financial credentials. When you make a payment, your card or payment details are entered directly into systems operated by our payment processors, Stripe (for web checkout and round-ups) and Apple (for in-app purchases). These processors tokenize your payment information, which means Talvi receives only a secure token along with limited transaction metadata such as the card brand, the last four digits, and the authorization result. The sensitive payment data itself stays with the processor and never reaches our servers.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

•       Provide, operate, and maintain the Talvi app and website.

•       Process your round-ups, charm purchases, and charitable contributions.

•       Confirm contributions and route funds to verified nonprofit partners.

•       Maintain your account, save your in-game progress, and personalize your experience.

•       Send you transactional messages, such as receipts and account notices.

•       Send you our newsletter and other marketing communications where you have opted in, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.

•       Deliver push notifications you have enabled.

•       Understand how the Services are used so we can improve them.

•       Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

•       Enforce our terms and comply with our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

5. Payment Processing: Stripe and Apple

Talvi offers two payment paths, and the processor depends on how you pay:

•       Stripe: handles payments made through web checkout, including round-up contributions. Stripe processes and stores your payment details under its own privacy policy and its PCI-DSS compliant security program.

•       Apple: handles purchases made through in-app purchase on iOS, and also distributes the Talvi app. Apple processes those payments under its own privacy policy, and we receive only limited information about the transaction.

Because these processors handle the sensitive payment data directly, your card details are governed by their privacy practices in addition to ours. We encourage you to review the Stripe and Apple privacy policies to understand how they handle your information.

6. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We share information only in the limited circumstances below, and only as needed for the purpose described.

•       Payment processors: Stripe and Apple, to process payments, round-ups, and purchases as described above.

•       Nonprofit partner verification and disbursement: Benevity, which we use to verify the eligibility of nonprofit partners and to help facilitate charitable disbursements. We share the information needed to route and confirm contributions, not your payment credentials.

•       Analytics providers: Google Analytics, PostHog, and Profound, which help us understand how the Services are used and how to improve them.

•       Email and newsletter delivery: beehiiv, which we use to manage and send our newsletter and related communications to subscribers.

•       Push notification delivery: OneSignal, which we use to send push notifications. On Apple devices, delivery is carried out through the Apple Push Notification service.

•       Community platform: Discord, if you choose to join our community. Your activity there is governed by Discord’s own privacy policy, not this one.

•       Legal and safety: we may disclose information when we believe in good faith it is required to comply with law, legal process, or a lawful government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Talvi, our users, or the public.

•       Business transfers: if Talvi is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

Each of the service providers above is permitted to use your information only to perform services for Talvi, and not for their own independent purposes, except where their own consumer-facing policies apply to your direct relationship with them (for example, Stripe, Apple, and Discord).

7. Analytics and Online Tracking

We use Google Analytics, PostHog, and Profound to measure and analyze how people use the Services. These tools may use cookies, software development kits, and similar technologies to collect usage and device information. You can limit some of this collection through your browser settings, your device privacy settings, and any cookie or tracking controls we make available on the website. See Section 10 for more on your choices.

8. Where Your Data Is Stored and How We Protect It

All personal information we collect is processed and stored on servers located in the United States. We do not store your personal information outside the United States.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. These include encryption of data in transit and at rest, access controls that limit who can view personal information, and the tokenization of payment data so that sensitive card details are held by our payment processors rather than by us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Services. We may retain certain records for longer where required to meet legal, tax, accounting, or financial obligations, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements. For example, donation and transaction records may be retained to support charitable reporting and tax requirements. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.

10. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the following rights regarding your personal information:

•       Right to know and access: you may request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.

•       Right to delete: you may request that we delete the personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.

•       Right to correct: you may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.

•       Right to opt out of sale or sharing: you may direct us not to sell or share your personal information.

•       Right to limit use of sensitive information: you may request that we limit our use of any sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the Services.

•       Right to non-discrimination: we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

We do not sell your personal information in exchange for money. Some analytics and tracking technologies described in Section 7 may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under California law. You may opt out of these technologies by adjusting your browser and device privacy settings, by using any cookie controls offered on the website, or by emailing us at privacy@talvi.app with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share.”

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@talvi.app. We will take steps to verify your identity before responding, which may include confirming information associated with your account. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, and we may require proof of that authorization. We will respond within the timeframes required by California law.

11. Children’s Privacy

The Services are intended for users who are at least 13 years old. Talvi is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@talvi.app, and we will take steps to delete it.

12. Third-Party Services and Links

The Services rely on, and may link to, third-party services that operate under their own privacy policies, including Stripe, Apple, Benevity, Google Analytics, PostHog, Profound, beehiiv, OneSignal, and Discord. This Policy does not cover the privacy practices of those third parties or of any nonprofit partner you choose to support. We encourage you to review their policies to understand how they handle your information.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top, and, where appropriate, we will provide additional notice through the app, the website, or by email. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised Policy.

14. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict of laws principles, except where the law of another jurisdiction, such as California, applies to the rights of its residents.
